Ohio Assembly Speaker Householder Arrested

The Speaker of the Ohio Assembly, Larry Householder, has been arrested with three of his associates.  It appears that $60 million was contributed by First Energy Solutions to Householder’s 501c4 non-profit, and his GOP associates to secure passage of a bill bailing out First Energy’s nuclear power plant and coal power plant operations by adding a surcharge to customer’s electric bills. The surcharge would produce $150-200 million annually for First Energy Solutions.

The Speaker and his associates funded primary and general election campaigns for representatives who would elect Householder as Speaker and support House Bill 6 to help First Energy. They derailed a ballot referendum to repeal House Bill 6 by buying off the signature gatherers, running misleading and dishonest negative ads to discourage ballot referendum signatures and trying to pay off the consultants for the ballot referendum. It’s a sordid tale of greed and dishonesty in my home state and well worth reading the criminal complaint for the particulars.

There may be a lot more dirt to be uncovered in connection with the Ohio energy schemers, with the electric utilities in Illinois and their cozy relationship with that state’s Assembly Speaker, and with the coal barons of West Virginia and their interwoven relationships with political and judicial officials in West Virginia and with President Trump and the DOE.
