Shradrach, Meshack and Abednego
I woke up two days ago from a deep dream with the names Shadrach and Abednego in the front of my brain and on my tongue. I don’t know where they came from. For those not that familiar with the Old Testament, they were thrown in a fiery furnace for not bowing down and worshiping the golden idol set up by Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon. They emerged unharmed and were rewarded for their faith.
I had been ruminating for some time about the golden statue of Donald Trump set up at the recent CPAC conference for his worshipers, and the demands from wanna-be King Donald and his followers to excommunicate apostates such as Liz Cheney, Mitt Romney, Ben Sasse and Adam Kinziger from the church of Trump.
I had also been trying to decipher the applicability of the story of the golden calf, Baal, which was set up by the Israelites to worship while Moses was up on the mountain receiving the Ten Commandments. It is yet another biblical tale warning us against the worship of false gods. In our present state, a constant stream of lies are being uttered by his idolators in worship of their false god, their golden idol Donald Trump.
