2022 Preliminary Ballot Recommendations:

2022 Preliminary Ballot Recommendations:

Our nation is in a difficult time: a large war with an aggressive Russia invading Ukraine, high inflation and ever higher interest rates to combat them, mass shootings, and a Trump movement and its associated and aligned rise in violent right-wing extremism dedicated to weakening American democracy and our most cherished rights to vote. As the Federal Reserve raises interest rates, we must prepare for a slowing economy, job layoffs and a return to price stability.

We have to design our policies so they look forward to combatting deadly climate change, rising economic inequality and an unfair tax system, restoring steady economic growth, improving American manufacturing and building a stronger modern infrastructure for all Americans. We particularly need to revive American manufacturing excellence and leadership in the emerging industries of our future.

My recommendations on the federal ballot:

US Senate: Alex Padilla

US House of Representatives:

Kermit Jones: District 3

Adam Gray: District 13

Rudy Sala: District 22

Christy Smith: District 27

Will Rollins: District 41

Katie Porter: District 47

Mike Levin: District 49

My Recommendations on the Ballot Propositions:

Prop 1: establishes reproductive rights (contraception and abortion) in the California Constitution as a counterweight to the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs giving states wide latitude to eliminate abortions and imperiling other personal decisions on marriage and reproduction.

Yes. Reproductive rights organizations support and right to life organizations oppose.

Prop 26: establishes sports betting in person at tribal casinos and horse track, the sponsors.

No this should be worked out in the state legislature.  All major newspapers are opposed

Prop 27: establishes sports betting online and via cell phones through licensed tribal casinos and gaming companies, the sponsors.

No, this should be worked out in the state legislature.  All major newspapers are opposed

Prop 28: sets aside 1% of the state revenues dedicated to K-12 education for arts and music education.

Yes. There is no opposition.

Prop 29: sets professional staffing standards for dialysis clinics:

No, this is the third time UHW has sponsored such a proposition. All major newspapers and CMA (California Medical Association) are opposed

Prop 30: increases personal income taxes by 1.75% on earnings over $2 million to fund electric vehicles and charging stations.

No, there are adequate state and federal programs and financing already in place to help California’s transition to electric vehicles. Governor Newson and virtually all major newspapers are opposed.

Prop 31: tobacco company sponsored referendum to repeal recently enacted state laws restricting the over the counter sale and vending machine sale of flavored tobacco products.
