Election Denialism in Arizona and Pennsylvania.
We just completed a peaceful election season with only a few scattered problems.
In Arizona, Lake lost her race for Governor by 17,000 votes. Finchem lost his race for Secretary of State by a far larger margin. And the Republican candidate for Attorney General is behind by a bit over 500 votes so there will be an automatic recount. Lake and Finchem refuse to concede, maintaining there was voter fraud in Maricopa County. In Maricopa County, there was a printer problem with ballots that had to be resolved by shifting to a heavier print setting and counting some ballots manually at a central ballot counting site; all ballots were cast and counted. https://www.cnn.com/2022/11/28/politics/arizona-maricopa-county-voting-printer-election One rural Republican County has refused to certify its own election results in protest. https://www.cnn.com/2022/11/28/politics/arizona-county-delays-election-challenges/index.html The impact would be that Cochise County’s votes would not be counted, costing the GOP additional votes in tight elections for the House and the Superintendent of Schools. Cochise County is being sued by the Secretary of State Katie Hobbs to require the county to submit its election results so that its citizen’s votes can be included in the statewide count. https://www.reuters.com/world/us/arizona-election-deniers-refuse-back-down-2022-11-28/ After the trial court ordered Cochise County to submit its election results, it did so.
In Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, the county ran out of paper ballots, and the local judge extended voting hours from 8 pm to 10 pm so all voters would have a chance to vote. https://apnews.com/article/2022-midterm-elections-pennsylvania-wilkes-barre-25c8d5efcaf52fd91a23be5e317a5559 Two GOP members are holding up the county’s certification of the election results in protest; they are joined by a Democrat who is abstaining until he is fully assured by local election officials that no voter was denied their right to vote. https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/pennsylvania/articles/2022-11-28/pennsylvania-county-deadlocks-on-certifying-election-results After the abstaining Democrat called local election officials and was assured that all voters were afforded opportunity to vote, the County Board voted 3-2 to submit its election results.
