Closing thoughts
There’s reality, and then there’s an election going on.
The reality: economy humming, raises growing, and inflation dropping. People traveling, stock market soaring, and dollar strengthening. Crime rates falling, immigration dropping, immigrants working, and hurricanes and floods destroying. Pregnant women dying from lack of medical care in states like Texas, and fierce political fights over reproductive rights.
Ukrainians fighting desperately to ward off a Russian invasion and Israelis at war with Palestinians, massive bombing on two fronts in Gaza and Lebanon and potentially a third with Iran.
The election debate is a far cry from the country at large. Trump is the candidate of radical change, and he presents an apocalyptic vision of a failing nation and calls for a new American isolationism and large tax cuts for corporations and the wealthy to spur the economy. Harris is the candidate of moderate change with slight alterations in course to improve the lives of ordinary people, like more new and affordable housing and tax credits for working families with children and for small businesses — the Opportunity Society. She presents a sunnier reality, strategic incremental change, and a positive vision of America’s future.
Our choice now.
