Re: Nomination of Peter Hegseth for Secretary of Defense

There are so many glaring red flags about his qualifications and behavior, including financial mismanagement of the non-profits that he led, lack of relevant experience or indeed any qualifications to serve as Secretary of Defense, habitual excessive drinking, and repeated abuse of women.

Peter Hegseth is a graduate of Harvard and Princeton who has served in the Army National Guard in both Iraq and Afghanistan, rising to the position of Major. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pete_Hegseth He has served as a commentator for Fox News. He is the author of 4 books about his experiences in the military.

He has headed two small non-profits, funded by the Koch Brothers, concerned with Veterans issues. He was removed from each due to financial mismanagement, drunkenness and sexual misconduct. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pete_Hegseth That is the extent of his leadership experience and expertise.

The position of Secretary of Defense is going to face huge global challenges: Ukraine, Russia, and China, as well as building peace from the ceasefire between Gaza and Israel. Hegseth has no experience or expertise in these matters. President Trump has indicated a desire to use the military in an unprecedented manner in US domestic matters, such as detention and deportation of immigrants living and working in the US, and drug enforcement. Hegseth has no experience here either. President Trump has also indicated a willingness to use the US military to achieve his stated goals in Panama and Greenland. This is another area where Hegseth has no expertise or experience. This position is so essential to America’s security that it cannot be entrusted to an individual utterly lacking in both the qualifications and experience for this monumental job.

One would hope that the US Senate would reject his nomination and encourage President Trump to find a better candidate for such a vital position.
